Ravens, Buzzards, and Chiffchaffs

Sunday, October 4th. We were in the garden enjoying the sunshine & heard a sound we did not recognise in the sky. There was a Raven flying above the vineyard in Wheel Lane. Two crows were chasing the Raven. It was so good to see the difference in size of these birds & to hear their different calls. Through binoculars we got a clear view of the wedge tail of the Raven.

Not much later we saw what we call “The Westfield Seven”. This is seven Buzzards flying above Wheel Lane.

Not long after this we again heard the call of the Raven. This time there were two birds being harassed by a Buzzard. The Buzzard twisted round to use its feet to attack a Raven.

Our recycling bin is under a yew tree. As I recycled there were five Mistle Thrushes eating the yew berries. I also noticed smaller birds flitting between the yew & adjacent beech tree. These were Chiffchaff – I think!  There were at least 4 small olive brown birds. We have noticed in previous years that warblers come into the garden just before their migration. We do not see them over the summer.
