Nightingale

8/5/2016 – A Nightingale was heard in the woods at the far end of New Cut near the path leading down to the Brede Valley.   This was about 3am this morning.  Beautiful sound for those able to be awake at that hour!

Thanks Mary, that’s encouraging so close to the edge of the village. There were 3 more Nightingales singing their hearts out a couple of evenings ago on private land further up the Brede valley (on the south side of the Brede so just inside the parish boundary).  We are very fortunate as there aren’t so many suitable places for them now compared with 10 or 20 years ago!

I have also heard Nightingales several times recently, late at night, in the woods at the end of New Cut. First time in the 13 years I’ve lived here

    • Thank you Lorna, interesting. More than one then? Let’s hope they stay even longer, attract a female, and nest successfully! The frog-like calls later on in mid-summer would be an indication of continued presence and likely breeding.
